This Safety and Health Policy demonstrates the company’s concern and commitment to ensure safety and health of all employees of Bornion Timber Sdn Bhd. The policy forms the basis for developing and implementing programmes and measures to ensure safety and health at the workplace.

The company management acknowledges its legal obligation of care towards protecting the Health and Safety of all its employees, and others who may be affected by the company’s activities.

In order to implement its responsibilities into operational practice the management will:

  1. Comply with all the requirements of legislation related to safety and health as stated in the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, as well as regulations and codes of practice which have been approved;
  2. Establish a Safety and Health Committee (SHC) that defines the organization and responsibilities related to Safety and Health;
  3. Ensure that the systems and procedures relating to this Policy Statement are consistently applied;
  4. Undertake adequate assessment and control of the health and safety risk arising from our work activities;
  5. Provide and maintain safe processing plants, machinery tools, and equipment;
  6. Consult our employees on matters affecting and improving their health and safety;
  7. Employ a trained Safety and Health Officer to ensure the proper implementation of the company’s safety and health policies, systems and procedures;
  8. Ensure the safe storage and judicious handling, use and disposal of any hazardous substances;
  9. Provide adequate training and ensure that all employees are competent to carry out their assigned tasks in a safe manner;
  10. Provide information, instruction and supervision for employees and contracted parties;
  11. Prevent accidents and work-related illness;
  12. Maintain safety and healthy working conditions at all operational and administrative sites and locations;
  13. Ensure that any party contracted to carry out work for the company is capable of complying with the prescribed health and safety rules and regulations; and
  14. Bring this Policy Statement to the attention of all employees and seek their co-operation in supporting the management in its efforts to establish, improve, and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.

This Safety and Health Policy Statement and its associated organizational systems, procedures and arrangements will be reviewed on annual basis and revised as necessary to reflect changes in the company’s work environment. Any changes to the Policy will be brought to the attention of all employees.


• Protect, conserve and improve the environment in all of its operations and decision making.
• Incorporate environmental management principles in its corporate strategy, planning and implementation.
• Comply with all applicable laws and regulations and voluntarily adopt or establish standards to constantly improve its environmental performance (Riparian reserves, steep area etc.)
• Conduct and support relevant research and development to improve the quality of environment.
• Adopt 3R concept: Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.
• Conduct environmental audits and review.
• Promote active programmer on environment education amongst employees to enhance environmental awareness.
• Only permitted chemicals allowed in the license area. Chemicals that are not listed in the prohibited chemicals by Sabah Forestry Department are allowed to be used by company. A proper guideline and store to place the chemical must be labelled and equipped with all safety measures.
• Always encourage minimization of chemical usage in the license area, especially forest plantation, towards organic alternative (environmental friendly) provided in the market from time to time
